Traditional compensation panels (stepped capacitor banks with mechanical contactors) are struggling to keep up with today’s dynamic, heavy industrial loads. Plastic injection machines, welding robots, CNC machines and inverter motor drives (VFDs) that switch on and off rapidly draw varying reactive power within microseconds. Because conventional capacitor panels cannot switch fast enough, businesses face significant reactive power penalties.
What Is an SVG (Static Var Generator)?
Known on the market as IGBT-based compensation, a dynamic reactive power generator or an electronic compensation device, the SVG (Static Var Generator) is a next-generation power quality solution that uses high-speed IGBT power electronics instead of stepped capacitors.
The SVG measures the phase angles of current and voltage on the grid in real time. It injects or absorbs the required reactive power (inductive or capacitive) precisely and steplessly (stepless) within milliseconds (less than 5 ms), completely eliminating the risk of over-compensation (capacitive penalty) or under-compensation (inductive penalty).

Differences Between Traditional Compensation and SVG
| Feature | Conventional Capacitor Panel | Revotek SVG Technology |
|---|---|---|
| Response Time | 2 seconds – 30 seconds (Slow) | < 5 milliseconds (Instant) |
| Compensation Precision | Stepped (In steps, ends up under or over) | Stepless / Fully Precise (Capacitive and Inductive) |
| Harmonic Risk | Can resonate and blow capacitors | Unaffected by harmonics and also filters them |
| Space Requirement | Bulky, large panels | Compact, modular and lightweight design |
System Safety with Active Harmonic Filters (AHF)
Besides reactive penalties, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 11th and 13th harmonic distortion on the grid causes transformers to overheat, sensitive electronic boards to burn out and breakers to trip for no apparent reason. Our SVG and Active Harmonic Filter (AHF) units neutralise grid distortion by instantly generating harmonic waves in opposite phase.
Which Sectors Should Use SVG?
- Renewable Energy (Solar & Wind): Eliminates the constantly changing capacitive and inductive imbalances in solar and wind plants, day and night.
- Heavy Industry & Automotive: Responds instantly in facilities with sudden, large load changes, such as spot welding, arc furnaces and crane systems.
- Data Centres & Hospitals: Provides full protection in critical facilities that require uninterrupted power quality and a high power factor (cos φ).
